Stereotypical Liberal College Professor

First off, I know I never post on this thing unless I am extremely extremely bored. Partially because it feels like an effeminate activity. Like scrapbooking or Grey's Anatomy. But today I will post again, and maybe I will be more frequent.

Right now I am waiting for my Trust and Wills course to start and decided that I should blog about my professor, Prof. Palmer. He is a perfect stereotype of a liberal college professor. He is always making tongue in check comments about McCain and Republicans, talking about the absurdity of the estate tax (which is fitting for the subject) and referring to the virtues of socialism. (Karl Marx had some really good ideas!). In addition he looks a lot like the characters show above (the scientist from Independence Day, Doc Brown from back to the future and Benjamin Franklin. I contemplated putting a picture of Skeletor from He-Man, but Skeletor doesn't have the long tangled hair with a giant bald spot on top) . He has this really odd, overly enthusiastic demeanor which is admirable while simultaneously obnoxious. The funniest part is how he paces the floor before class preparing for the course. And to finish out the perfect liberal professor stereotype he is from Oregon.

This might not be funny for anyone reading it, but if you had this class, your would understand.

Vintage Classic Tunes

When I was in high school me and my group of friends always hung out at one friends house. The Dunford brothers parents were never home which might have been one of the most attractive things about hanging out there. That and the pool table and hot tub. Our friend Ryan was infamous for being completely unable to keep track of his cds. He would buy a cd and within the week not know where it was. This was before everyone loaded their music on their computers too. Because of this we always wound up listening to his dad's cds. Stuff like Fleetwood Mac, Simon and Garfunkel and Van Morrison. I've always been grateful for this because it introduced me to a whole genre and era of music I might not have heard otherwise.

The other day I was watching The Sopranos and a Van Morrison song that I had never heard came on (he has a very distinct voice). After a few google searches, I found out it was the song Into the Mystic from Van Morrison's most popular album, Moondance. (Which I have heard before). I am totally back on a Van Morrison kick again because of this.

If you haven't heard Van Morrison before (but i guarantee you have somewhere... ie Brown Eyed Girl), I highly recommend checking him out.

Retards and Handicaps

Today I found myself waiting at a turn light with two turning lanes. I was on the inside lane and there were cars on the outside lane as well. As I began making my turn, the car on the outside lane began turning into the inside lane (which should have been my lane). I slowed down until they realized what they were doing and jolted back to the outside lane. As I started to pass them I said "what a retard!" Just then I noticed the handicap parking pass hanging from their rearview mirror and felt guilt for what I had just said.

Bytheway if you read this just leave a little comment. I am curious if ANYONE reads this

Nate keeps telling me that I need to post on “our” blog. I really think it is his blog but to humor him I’ll post something. No promises on being regular about it though. It’s OK, Nate isn’t either.

We have been living in our house now for nine months. It has gone by pretty fast considering. I have noticed a few things that really are going to be musts for our next home. One is double sinks in the master bathroom. As Nate has already mentioned, we get ready in separate bathrooms in the morning because, well we can, and because I am not very good at sharing the sink. I really think it is good for our relationship because Nathan is such a morning person, all cuddly and happy, that he is actually kind of annoying and I on the other hand am a slow mover and a grump in the mornings. Nathan is always giving me pointers for getting ready in the morning too. He has a system. He does everything he can in one room at a time so that he cuts down on time walking back and forth between rooms. Nifty huh.

I really wanted to plant a vegetable garden when we got a house. The trouble is we also got dogs when we got a house and they like to dig and have eaten and chewed all the plants that were in the back yard to death. So I planted stuff in the flower garden in the front yard. I have Swiss chard, lettuce, strawberries, cucumbers, watermelon, rosemary, basil and Mexican oregano. Everything is doing pretty good and the greens actually look pretty, well I think so at least. With a little more room and sun I would have done more but maybe next year we can fence the dogs out of part of the back yard.

New things I have discovered that I wanna share

I am always so grateful when people pass along new things that are helpful. Especially when those things are great bands (since I cant rely on the radio), or things which are healthy.

1). The Graduate - www.myspace.com/thegraduaterock - This is a great band that I stumbled upon through absolutepunk.net when they were offering a free download of an EP. I absolutely loved it, picked up the full album and just recently downloaded another EP which was acoustic, on absolutepunk.net. (its still for free if you wanna check them out). I highly recommend people check them out.

2). Bright Eyes - thisisbrighteyes.com - This is a band that has been around for about ten plus years that my brother Trent introduced me to. Some of their music sounds like country on meth (ina good way, lots of slide guitar and fiddle). All their music is fantastic.

3). Ginger Pills - I have terrible acid reflux. I have dislocated shoulder, torn ligaments and been hit by a car (true story, ask Brady he was there) but nothing is more painful that a really bad case of the stomach acids coming up. Ginger Pills have been great when Zantac has failed.

Hopefully this has been helpful... I dont know if anyone even reads this but oh well, tell me what you think if you do read this and check this stuff out.

Bathrobes

Since we have moved into our new house I have had to be extra careful about walking around the house partially covered up. There seems to be windows at every angle and I always find myself dashing out of the view of anyone who might be passing on the street. Leaa has always had a bathrobe and thrown it on while running around the house, so the other day while I was in Bed, Bath and BEYOND! (you have to say all loud it like its a superheros Catch Phrase.... probably a gay superhero). I decided to pick up a clearance men's bathrobe. I absolutely love it. Its very warm and it is easy to grab when I need to go downstairs or make a quick jaunt to my bathroom (I have been booted out of the master bathroom, but I guess if you have extra bathrooms, you mine as well use them). In my new bathrobe I feel like Hugh Hefner, except without all the venereal disease. I think everyone should have a bathrobe.
